Wow. I really didn't realize how much we ate on this trip until I was going through pictures when we got home. The food was awesome and 10,000x better than any food we have over here in Oxford. Anyways, besides the food, we really had a great trip!! We landed in Rome super late on Friday night so we went straight to the hostel and bed. We woke up really early Saturday morning to cram in as much sight seeing as we could.

For the first half of the day, we mainly just wandered through the main touristy area and tried to figure out where everything was. We got lost quite a few times but eventually we got our bearings. The tram system was a whole different story!! We had reservations at the Borgheis Gallery (a GORGEOUS museum) and it was pretty out of the way. When we asked the tourist office they told us to take a certain tram to get up there. We somehow ended up going the wrong way and we didn't realize it until we hit the last stop and it was on the complete opposite side of town. We eventually got there, and the journey was SO worth it!!
(It's The Last Supper!!)
The Borghese Gallery was one of the most beautiful museums I have ever been in. It contains a lot of Biblical art such as The Last Supper and all kinds of famous sculptures. The real gem of the gallery is the ceilings. If you couldn't tell by all of the pictures I took of them, that alone was worth the entry price. I spent a majority of my time with my neck craned up towards the ceiling because I really just couldn't get over how spectacular they were.
Next up, we decided to head over towards the Vatican City to walk around and grab a late lunch. We were really lucky we did this because we learned that it wouldn't be open any other day we were there so we needed to take our tour that day instead of on Monday like we had previously planned on doing. We ended up jumping onto a guided tour that took us through not only through the Vatican museum, but also through the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica!! Our guide was very informative and gave us a lot of information behind Michelangelo's artwork as well as a lot of historical tidbits. We were also very lucky to go when we did, because we got onto the last tour of the day and the museum closed about 5 minutes after we entered the building and it was a lot less crowded. I also apologize for the poor quality of the photos, the lighting wasn't great!!
The next day was another early start because all of the museums were free that day!! We went straight to the Coliseum because we knew that would be the most crowded. That was pretty surreal after seeing pictures of it all of my life... I still don't think I've fully come to terms with the fact that I was walking around with the masses in it and taking awkward selfies!! Not all of my pictures uploaded onto my computer so this post will be updated again later!!
This weekend for my final European adventure, I'm off to Amsterdam with my new Australian friend Sophie!! We cannot wait to see all of the canals and apparently they even have a pretty crazy Christmas market!! Until then friends!!
xoxo
